Mangalore : Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi urges youths to avoid celebrating the New Year celebration in western style on Jan 1 and follow the Indian tradition.
Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 27, Thursday, Sangeetha Prabhu of Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi, said that the all Hindus must celebrate New Year on the day of Ugadi festival and not on January 1.
The samithi also prepared a documentary on the ill-effects of such western celebrations, and on the significance of the Ugadi festival in order to create awareness among the people.
She said that the present generation has forgotten good old traditional practices and are celebrating wrong day in tourist’s spots, public places, pilgrims and school presmises at Dec 31 midnight.
The young boys and girls celebrate the day by boozing, consuming drugs, wearing obscene dress, keeping the music aloud and dancing, rain dance, riding a vehicle with high speed with their friends and screaming, bursting crackers, teasing girls. This kind of celebration always leads to harassment on girls and environment pollution, hence this must be avoided, she added.
In this situation more numbers of Hindu girls itself become scapegoat in the various cases like rape, murder and missing cases, Sangeetha said.
Ashwini Prabhu from Sanathan Samstha, Ramananda Gowda and Leelavathi from Hindu Janajagruthi Samithi were present at the press meet.
