Mangalore : A tensed situation prevailed followed by a triggered controversy after the school run by a Catholic institution distributed uniforms to students bearing religious symbols in Belthangady Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.
The incident took place after parents of few students from Hindus and Muslim religion staged a demonstration condemning the decision of school authorities, outside the Mariambika School run under the auspices of Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Belthangady at Bedrabettu in Indabettu village.
It is learnt that the parents under the aegis of Hindu outfits complained against the school management for providing t-shirts, belts and identify cards containing Cross symbol.
Belthangady police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The parents agreed to withdrew their protest after school management assured to withdrawing the controversial uniform.
Belthangady Diocese Vicar General Fr Joseph Valiaparambil, said that the school management had printed the school logo on the uniform and not the religious symbol. Further after holding discussions with the parents, final decision will be taken.
