Puttur : After 11 days of judicial custody, the Fifth District and Sessions Court Puttur has granted conditional bail to Chaithra Kundapur, for alleged assault on a leader of Hindu outfit leader recently.
Chaithra did not appear before the Court in the pretext of ill-health on November 3, she had filed a separate bail application at Sessions Court in Puttur, she was granted conditional bail on Monday, November 5 but not released. She has to remain in judicial custody until Wednesday as Tuesday is government holiday, sources said.
Chaithra, a young journalist-turned-Hindutva activist known for her aggressive speeches was arrested after she allegedly assaulted Guruprasad Panja, taluk secretary of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, with the help of her supporters at Subrahmanya in Sullia taluk on October 24.
Police nabbed Chaithra and six of her supporters on the very next day and produced them before Sullia JMFC (Judicial Magistrate of First Class) Court, where she was remanded judicial custody.
