Mangalore : Kadri Kambala, which marks Tulunad’s historic significance, was inaugurated in the fields located in Kadri on the morning of Dec 12, Sunday. The Kambala is being organized by Kambala Samithi.
The Kambala was inaugurated with honoring the buffaloes by the family head of Kadri Kambala Guttu in the presence of Sri Mahantharasa Rajayogi Sadyanathji of Kadri Yogishwara Mutt.
Sadananda Shetty, chairman of Shree Devi Educational Institutions Chairman ritualistically broke the coconut as per the culture before the auspicious work.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that, people participating in the Kambala not only displays physical strength, but also increases mental power.
Participating as the chief guest, senior banker P. Jayaram Bhat said that the race held in the slushy field is a meaningful rural sport. Earlier, the paddy growers used to celebrate the annual harvest with the Kambala and the slushy field. But now the modern children are completely unaware of it.
District-in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar inaugurated the women’s tug-of-war. MP Kumar Kateel inaugurated the Tulunada Tappangai contest.
Later, in the noon the buffalo race began, in which the buffalos brought from the district and its surrounding regions participated in the buffalo race with their owners. The race has several categories as per the capacity of the buffaloes.
A few foreigners also witnessed the historic event and expressed their happiness to witness this historic, traditional, and cultural event.
DK Kannada Sahitya Parishad President Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Lion K. J. Devadiga, Shivanand Karkera, and Bhaskar Shetty were present. Kambala Samithi Chief Convener Kadri Navneeth Shetty compered the event.
