Karkala: Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, him self a writer, poet and Murthy Devi awards winner offered seven volumes of translated holy books on Jainism at a function held in Nallur near his hometown on Wednesday (Feb8), to the Indian people.
The Shravana belagola Jain muni delivered the benediction address on the religious occasion where he praised Moily’s efforts to set up a Prakrita study centre, which has undertaken translation into Kannada of old Jain literature.
The Moodabidri Jain muni, Panditachrya Swamiji presided. Sudesh sagar Muniraja was present.
Before the programme was taken up all of them were led the venue in a colourful procession, along with musical instrument. The seven holy books were taken out of a silver box after a number of Jainist pujas.
Venur Dhananjaya Kumar, local MLA Gopala Bhandary, Nallur GP chairman U.K. Jain, and other guests spoke on the occasion. Dr. Jayachandra of Bangalore made introductory remarks. Mahavir Jain welcomed the gathering Gunapal Kadamba compared the event.
Ms. Hemavathi V. Heggade, M.K. Vijay Kumar, M.N. Rajendra Kumar, and others were present.
