Mangalore: Muslim brethren in the district have commenced the Ramadan fasting from Saturday, July 21 as per the announcement made by religious heads that the Blessed Month of Ramadan will begin on Saturday after the crescent moon was cited on Friday.

Mangalore Qazi Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar and Udupi Qazi PM Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, have extended  Ramadan greetings to the people of the two districts and  urged the Muslims to busy themselves with prayers, fasting and spiritual introspection throughout the month.

Muslim brethren are greeted allover on the commencement of the holy month and the entire community is prepared to observe the holy month with true religious endeavour and spirit.

Its start is calculated based on the sighting of the new moon, which marks the beginning of the Muslim lunar month that varies between 29 or 30 days.
