Mangaluru : Home Minister K J George Inaugurated the police canteen and police community hall here on Tuesday Nov 25.
Speaking after Inauguration, minister George said police require cooperation of people and media in maintain law and order. Pointing to the media, Mr. George said the Government accepts constructive criticism but there have been many instances when the media have drawn conclusion on their own.
Mr. George said such action bring lot of pressure on investigation officers. Media should allow investigation officers to freely investigate cases. He said the State will protect people who abide by law. It will take stern action against those who take law in their hands.
There are 28,500 posts vacant in the state. 4,500 police officers retire from the service every year. The government has initiated the process to recruit personnel for 8,500 posts. In the state, there are 790 vacant sub-inspector posts. Presently, the department has taken the responsibility to fulfill 290 sub-inspector posts within the next three years,” he said.

District in-charge Minister B. Ramanath Rai also spoke.
The police canteen, the second to be opened in the city, will provide household articles around 30 to 40 per cent less than the market rate. These articles will be available to Policemen working in Mangalore Police Commissinerate, Dakshina Kannada district and other branches of State police.
MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLC Ivan D’ Souza, ADGP law and order Subashchandra, Kempayya IPS, ZP president Asha Thimappa Gowda, H Kumar of MRPL, IGP Amrit Paul, police commissioner R Hitendra, SP Dr Sharanappa and others were present.
