Sullia : The incidences of moral policing will not be tolerated at any cost. The government will not tolerate those who take law into their hands, said Home Minister K J George.
Speaking after inaugurating the new building of Sullia police station here on Monday, he said that “The police department should be people friendly. The public too should extend cooperation with the police department. Neither the chief minister nor myself has interfered in the functioning of the police department. Public can also file complaints to the higher officials.”
“The police department is facing shortage of staff. The process of appointing 8,500 personnel have been completed. Thirty per cent of the post will be earmarked for women during the recruitment from next year. The rules on height and weight for the tribal youth will be relaxed while recruiting to the department.”
District-Incharge Minister Ramanath Rai said strict action should be initiated against those who protest in front of police stations carrying flags. “There has been increase in provocative comments on social media. The police should act tough against such people,” the minister added.

The fire station building was also inaugurated at Sullia on the occasion. The building was built at a cost of Rs three crore. Later, the minister inaugurated Puttur traffic police station at Puttur, built at a cost of Rs 70 lakh.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, a few people are trying to disrupt communal harmony in society for political mileage. “It has been proposed to construct 11,500 police quarters in the state. About 2,500 quarters have been completed. The post of 760 sub inspectors have filled.” the minister added.
Member of Legislative Assembly Shakunthala Shetty urged the state govt to sanction women police station to Puttur, a police outpost should be set up at Ishwaramangala.
She also demanded that Ichlampady and Siribagilu should be brought under the jurisdiction of Uppinangady police station instead of Puttur traffic police station.
