Udupi : Home Minister KJ George has promised a special package for Naxals in order to encourage them to surrender.
Speaking to reporters at the SP office here the minister said the Anti-Naxal Force will be replaced by the Anti-Terrorism Squad or the Anti-Ter ror Special Squad. He said the government would try to tackle the Naxal menace on a priority basis The government would ensure developmental works in tribal regions and will also encourage tribals to join the police force, he added.
The Home Minister claimed that there were 30 Naxals in the state of whom five have surrendered. He said under the Naxal Surrender package the R s 15000 compensation announced for surrendering AK 47 has increased to Rs 30,000 while a Naxal who surrenders wis entitled to Rs 5 lakhs from the existing Rs 2 lakhs.
KJ George earlier inaugurated a CCTV project in the presence of DGP Lalrokhuma Pachau, district in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, home secretary V Umesh and ADGP Alok Mohan. There are a total of 16 CCTVs which will be placed at strategic locations in Manipal, Udupi and Malpe. The cameras can capture high quality images as well as the number of the vehicles.
During his visit to Udupi, KJ George also visited the Cognress Office, Mother of Sorrows Church, Sri Krishna Mutt, Jamia Masjid and Asha Nilaya.
