Mangalore : Horale Saroja was released from prison on September 25, Wednesday four years after her arrest. She was facing as many as 22 cases and was absolved of charges in 20 cases. She also underwent one and a half and two and a half years of imprisonment in two cases and has completed her jail term.
Meanwhile, for want of evidences the court absolved her of the charges in the last case pending against her.Saroja (29) from Horale in Megur gram panchayat in Koppa taluk of Chikmagalur district, and Devendra (37) from Sorab in Shimoga district, were arrested by the Shimoga district police in 2009 and lodged in Mysore jail. The two were were given to the custody of the Udupi district police in 2010 for enquiry into cases reported from Amasebail and Shankarnarayana police stations.
Speaking to reporters upon her release, Saroja said she was happy. She said she was forced to admit that she was part of Naxal activities and when she refused cases were slapped against her.
She also said she will continue to fight injustice.
