Mangalore : Houses in Maravoor have submerged after heavy rains lashing the area has left the Maravoor dam across Phalguni river in Gurupur overflowing. People who have been affected by the floods have been evacuated.
Locals however allege that the authorities have made no effort to release water from the dam even after the problem arose.
Engineer SD Mayya while stressing the need for precautionary measures added the construction of a retention wall has not been possible due to opposition from locals. He said water is being released by opening eh slice gates.
The family of five of one Ravindra has been rescued. So far a total of seven including a kid have been rescued and arrangements have been made for their stay in a temple.
Disaster management team has been sent as soon as the news was received, the DC has informed.
