Mangaluru : District In-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said Human Development Report is a basic document for comprehensive development of the district.
He was speaking after releasing the Human Development Report of Dakshina Kannada district for the year 2014 at Zilla Panchayat Hall here on Thursday.
He said that the human development indices, gender inequality, child development, food security, urban development, comprehensive dalit development and comprehensive tribal development have been considered in the report. These points will help the government to chalk out schemes in the prime focus areas, he observed.
Human Development Report Lead Agency Chief Coordinator and former professor of Justice K S Hegde Institute of Management (Nitte) Dr N S Shetty said the report suggests that the development should be people-centric rather than income-centric. It calls for improvisation in quality of living, peace, harmony and good health.
Hence, the Human Development Index also acts as a multidimensional index. The State government brought out the Human Development Report for the last time in 2005, he said and added that the State stood in the third position in the country in Heath, fourth in education and second in income. The State was in the second position in the comprehensive human development, he recalled.
Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said the chief minister will release the State-level Human Development Report next week.
Prof Shetty and the report’s Kannada translator Dr Saigeetha were felicitated.
Zilla Panchayat President Asha Thimmappa Gowda, Chief Executive Officer P I Sreevidya, Deputy Secretary N R Umesh and Department of Women and Child Welfare Deputy Director Sundar Poojary were present on the occassion.
