Mangalore: Justice Dr. S.R Nayak heading Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KHRC) said here on Friday at an academic meeting, that human rights are inseparable from humanity; hence enterprises, management authorities and the media should inculcate the high values of humanity in society.
A 2-day national conference has been organised by HR Cell of AJ Institute of management on the theme of ‘humane society development through human rights’ along with the ‘The Hindu’ daily, and HR Commission at Kottara Chowki today, on the outskirts of the port city.
Dr. Nayak pointed to millions of children in a developing nation (such as India) deprived of a dignified life and many (backward) communities left in slavery, but that all should have their rights and freedom in any case. He criticised graded inequality sustained by a caste system all over India where human rights are often sacrificed without mercy. He attacked ‘morale policing’ and the attacks made on other religious places than one’s own.
He condemned a few media groups that made a false representation of facts. Above all he said that where there is corruption in any form, human rights can never be protected.
In spite of having laws upon laws, The India Govts (centre and states) had failed to protect the disregarded sections of people under poverty, lakh of education, living in jungle or on hills. But working together, such neglect can be overcome and it is possible to co-operate for a cause, like being a Universal Manhood achiever, or to instill human values in a society. Globalisation has broken barriers, but it has not protected the people who lack decent livelihood, he added.
H.R Deshpande, Principal district judge (DK), was a chief, guest, while A.J Shetty of AJ Group of educational institutions was in the chair.
Panel discussions are going on during the 2 days of the national conference, while the the valedictory session is due at 4pm on April 30 at the same venue, at the College premises in Kottara Chowki, outside Mangalore city.
