Mangalore: Dr Ravindranath Shanbhag,noted consumer activist and President of the Human Rights Protection Foundation, Udupi, has expressed his displeasure over the methodology adopted by the administration in conducting a survey of Endosulfan affected people.
Speaking to reporters at Press Club, he said if the district administration was planning a survey in 78 villages in the taluks of Belthangady, Sullia, Puttur and Bantwal, the information collected by the Foundation activists has revealed that there has been aerial spray of the Endosulfan in at least 92 villages. He questioned why the district administration neglected other 14 villages and alleged these villages in Udupi, Kundapur and Kumta have been ignored.
He also demanded that pregnant women in the affected villages should be screened so that the possibility of congenital defects in the child is ruled out.
He also alleged that the authorities were trying to prevent a ban on Endosulfan He further said the High Court serving notice to the central and State government for not providing medical aid to Endosulfan victims, was highly welcome.
