Mangalore : Hundreds of people witnessed the Historic Kadri Devara Kambala, at the kambala fields at Kadri on December 2, Sunday. The event was inaugurated by several dignitaries present on the occasion including entrepreneur A Sadananda Shetty, Karnataka Bank Chairman Jayaram Bhat and local corporator Roopa D Bangera.
The event rekindled folk glory with various traditional and rural games like Kesaru Gadde Ota, Teppangai, tug of war and a treasure hunt contest too was organised. Several took part in the contests with great enthusiasm. It was indeed a spectacle to watch the event.
Several pairs of buffaloes took part in the historic event held in different categories. The Kambala is held every year under the guidance of Sri Sandhyanath of Kadri Sri Yogishwara Mutt.
Even Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar visited the Kambala venue and appreciated the organisers for helping protect and promote the cultural tradition of the land through such sports. The CM was accompanied among others by N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, Education Minister and others.
The Chief Minister presented awards to the winners in the photo contest arranged on the occasion. He also honored Kadri Navaneeth Shetty, convenor of the Kambala Committee.
