Mangalore : The Direct Taxes Committee and Mangalore branch of the Southern India Regional Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organized a two day national conference, ‘Anveshana’ on ‘Direct Taxes and Allied Laws’ at Loyola Hall of St. Aloysius PU College on August 20.
Mr G. Ramaswamy, Vice-President of ICAI, inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Chartered accountant is one of the subjects which attract large number of students towards it.
He also said that, even in the days where most of the students join IT industry immediately after the college, there is no lack of students passing out every year, after writing the CA examination.
In the past 4 to 5 years there are numbers of changes taking places in the CA entrance examination. The students must be given thorough training and in turn the students must expect more result from the students, he added.
Mr T.N. Manoharan, former presidents also was one of the chief guest.
Guest of honour Mr U.K. Basu, Managing Director, MRPL, said that there is legal support for the Charted Account and the Government is proposing for the legislations for the CA. At present day there is better opportunity for the CA.
The first session was addressed by Mr Manoharan, who is a director nominated by the Government and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Satyam Computer Services Ltd (now Mahindra Satyam). He discussed the important proposals of the Direct Tax Code.
Mr Jayant Gokhale, a Chartered Accountant and Mr K. Raghu, a Central Council Member of ICAI were present on the occasion.
