Ullal: The Mangalore Tahsildar with a police team has succeeded in arresting on Sunday a gang of cheaters engaged in illegal transportation of kerosene coming under the public distribution system to Kerala, only to sell it at higher rates, in Manjanady in DK within Konaje police station’s jurisdiction.
A Jeep was seized with 140 litres of kerosene by local police, but when Tahsildar got the jeep to Mangalore with illegal transporters, he found to his dismay that there was only 45 liters of kerosene in the jeep, and not 140 litres as earlier stated.
The police team had carried out the seizure based on some complaints that rice and kerosene (from PDS)was going to Kerala. BPL Card-holders were saying that they got only 2 litres, instead of 4 litres allowed under Government orders here.
4 persons were arrested a Ro-Ro bogie at Suratkal railway station, for the theft of diesel, 3 persons were detained near Parangipet with 500gms of Ganja worth Rs15000 under Bantwal police station. 6 persons were caught with gambling money of Rs1080 in Puttur taluk at Mottethadka village, playing cards as well.
