Mangaluru: A police team which raided an illegal sand extraction site at Badagabellur in Mullarapatna on the banks of river Phalguni on November 4, Sunday have seized huge quantity of sand, two country boats, a hitachi and 9 tippers used for sand transportation.

The value of the seized goods is estimated at Rs 58 lakhs. The accused however managed to escape.

The sand and the seized vehicles have been handed over the Department of Mines and Geology for further action.
