Bangaluru: Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru has ruled out her entry into politics.
“I’m not entering politics. I have been saying this for a long time. I have no interest in contesting elections,” Ms. Wadiyar told reporters while scotching speculations over her possible entry into politics in the light of her recent meeting with BJP national president Amit Shah at the palace here.
Describing Mr. Shah’s visit to the palace last week as a “courtesy call”, Ms. Wadiyar said several leaders of the BJP, including L.K. Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Vijayaraje Scindia, had visited the palace earlier.
The timing of Mr. Shah’s visit to the palace, ahead of the Assembly elections, had attracted “unnecessary” media attention, she felt.
She denied that Mr. Shah had discussed with her any proposal for a Rajya Sabha nomination. “It was not discussed. If it (Rajya Sabha nomination) was offered, I would have had no hesitation in disclosing the same,” she said.
The scion of the family, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, too has no interest in joining politics, she said.
Ms. Wadiyar said her husband, late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, had represented Mysuru in the Lok Sabha earlier. But, he never used his clout in politics for “selfish” ends, she said.
