Bangalore/New Delhi: There are reservations in various spheres, like govt. service, assembly/Parliament membership, employment and education for backward classes, women, ex-servicemen, minorities, even handicapped persons. But in Haryana state, reservation is provided upto 67% for menfolk! This in a society dominated by men only there. The reservation is given in govt. service and in the appointment of school teachers in that state. The balance 33% is provided to women, but in common category women do not come into the picture at all. This fact is explained by Haryana’s public information officer.
In a HPSC examination advertisement, 1317 vacancies were available, but 67% of them were reserved for men, and women got the balance 439 vacancies only. A complaint on the matter has been presented to the Governor there. The women argue that they should be allowed to compete in the common category if vacancies remain, said Kuldip Singh, a lawyer who practises in Punjab and Haryana High Court in Chandigarh. Girls were doing better than boys in public exams. Vijendra Kumar DDPI had sought clarification from the higher-up.
The CPI(M) has criticised the reservation policy in employment of the Haryana govt, by denying some reservation for women in the common category and urged governor Jagannath Pahadia to set right the constitutional rules in proper light.
