Mangalore : The St. Aloysius’ College of Mangalore was the venue for the inauguration of a new chapter of Alliance Francaise (Bangalore) on Tuesday, July 6 at 4 pm Philippe Martinet, Co-operation and cultural counselor (French Embassy in India), inaugurated the Mangalore centre at 4 pm.

Chiranjeev Singh, President of Bangalore AF, addressing the distinguished gathering on the occasion, informed that the coastal region of Karnataka has been historically at the cross roads of several cultures with many languages. By teaching French in Mangalore, we bring the people close to French culture and arts here, and introduce the glory of local culture and history to the French people. Principal Rev. Fr. Swebert D’Souza, told the audience in the hall that French language was the second most commonly taught second language in the world. Knowledge of French was essential in today’s globalised landscape. Mangaloreans study French in PUC or Degree classes, but are not aware of higher studies in French, he added.

The French counselor P. Martinet, spoke of the law of preservation and motivation at the Mangalore chapter of Bangalore Alliance Francaise. The AF certificate for French is internationally known, he said. He wanted more Mangaloreans to study Frency and its cultural values.
