Mangalore : A Padayatra was taken out from the DC office in Mangalore upto the ESI Hospital at Kadri Shivabagh on August 19, Monday under the leadership of Sudatta Jain Shirthady, General Secretary of the State unit of the Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha. An indefinite hunger strike later began in front of the hospital demanding fulfillment of various demands including better amenities at the hospital and bring it under government control.

Addressing the protestors, Sudatta Jain said presently the hospital had only five instead of 27 doctors and that the hospital also lacked various amenities. All workers in the district should get ESI facility, he said.

Naveenchandra Kolya, District General Secretary of Akhila Bharatha Karmika Sangha, H Ismail Shafi, Ullal unit President, Gopal,Harishkumar Shetty Jakribettu and other leaders were present.
