Mangalore : A “Dharani- Sathyagraha” protest meeting held on 7th Thursday at the D.C Office by the Karnataka Pranta Raitha Sangha , insisted on regularizing the land ownership rights for the Government lands illegally occupied them for decades it was the part of protest program held over the state, of which the Mangalore unit of KPRS was also a part.
The meeting was addressed by K.R. Shriyan and K.Yadava Shetty leaders of the KPRS.
Shriyan informed the public and members that’s certain forest lines occupied by farmers have not been regularized and they not be given ownership rights even after occupying and developing the farmlands in the forest for many years. These farmers were poor and had to leave in hamlets in a joint family system with several families coming under the same roof without any civic facilities. The government has been approached many times by these farmers for a ration cards, ownership rights and sale of crops to continue their basic profession of agriculture in Decades. The situation so grave that their now force to conduct a Sathyagraha in front of D.C Office demanding their fundamental rights.
Yadava Shetty Told the meeting that the farmers were becoming desperate to set right the anomalies of land ownership on Government lands at least now. The B J P Government had done nothing to mend the farmer’s plight and their fore, the present Congress Government should come to the rescue of the suffering farmers.
The Dharani Sathyagraha will continue indefinitely. Large crowds attended the protest rally.
