Police arrest 22-year youth in abandoned baby case

Kundapur father of the babyKundapur: Kundapur police have arrested a youth from Sagar, in the case of baby Panchami and claimed to be the father of the baby.

The arrested youth has been identified as Shashikumar (22), a resident of Shetrakodi, Beloor in Sagar.

The police have brought Shashikumar from Sagar to Kundapur on August 5, Tuesday and was subjected to medical examination at the government hospital.

During the primary interrogation, Shashikumar revealed of being a father of the baby.

Later police have registered rape case against him and he was produced before the court on Monday and sent to judicial custody.

Reportedly, Shashi who came from Sagar to Kundapur with a friend to work in a quarry at Byndoor, was in relation with a girl working at a cashew factory, hailing from Kudlu in Kanyana Guddeangadi, since past two years.

Shashikumar who came to know about girl’s pregnancy in last November had unnecessary fight with her family and went absconding.

After giving birth girl along with her mother left the newborn in a jungle on July 31. However the baby survived in spite of hunger and heavy rain and was named Panchami.
