Uppinangady: As many as 20 passengers were injured as two KSRTC buses collided with each other on Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway at Uppalige near Uppinangady on Tuesday afternoon. Some of the passengers were severely inured in the accident and are being treated at various hospitals in Puttur and Mangaluru.
The incident took place when the KSRTC bus plying on the national highway from Mangaluru to Arasikere tried to overtake a vehicle resulting in a collision with another KSRTC bus which was coming from Bengaluru to Kundapur from opposite direction. The two buses were damaged in the accident and later removed from the highway using cranes.
The road where accident took place was repaired by the locals by depositing soil recently and rainfall on Tuesday morning turned the soil into mud which might have prevented the driver to stop the bus. Also, the incident was occurred in the turn of the road at Uppalige. The local police arrived on the spot soon after the accident and transported the injured to nearby hospitals by private vehicles and ambulances.
