M.V. Kamath’s 90th birthday raises nostalgic feelings

M.V.KamathManipal: Veteran journalist and administrator M.V. Kamath’s 90TH birthday was celebrated at Fortune Inn Valley View in Chaitya Hall, on Sept.7, Wednesday, by Manipal Institute of Communications, affiliated to Manipal University.
Dr.H.S.Ballal, pro-Chancellar, made the felicitation speech, recalling a few incidents from Kamath’s life and asking students to emulate him.
Director V.Hiregange made introductory remarks. M.V.Kamath suitably replied to the felicitations.
He said he was perhaps the only living reporter who heard Jinnah and saw the Union Jack going down the Red Fort on the midnight of August 15 in 1947. He wrote reports on the two events.
He recalled N.V.Godse saluting on being given the death sentence for Gandhiji’s association. He praised Morarji Desai, Amithabh Bachchan and remembered his own editorship of Illustrated Weekly of India
