Mangalore : Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association jointly with Life is Calling, Bangalore will organize celebration commence from Panambur at 6.30 am on Feb 24, Sunday. Speaking at the press meet held on Feb 22, Friday, president of the
association Manjunath Bhandary said that this year three Kenyan runners will participate in the 21-K, 10-K, 5-K and 3-K run.
He also said that the Kenyan runners including Hillary Koech, Joseph Keino and Nicholas Korir will also join Helen Walker from Mumbai and Katrina Dixon from United Kingdom. Around 6,000 runners will participate in the event. Speaking about the registration, he said that around 1,720 participants will run for three km race, while 1,750 college’s students for five km race and 500 for 10 km and 21 km. Around 2,000 will participate in run/ walk. The organisation has decided to limit upto 6,000 runners this time, he said.
Life Calling director PB Mithra said that 21-K and 10-K runs will have four categories including age group of 15 to 45, seniors (46 to 60 years), veterans (above 61) and there will also be a special category for Dakshina Kannada runners. The participants will have to pay Rs 750 for the run and Rs 500 for the timing chip. The association will give the amount of Rs 5 lakh as the prize money.
The prize money of Rs 30,000 will be given in the 21-K open category. Participation certificates will be issued to all the participants.
Bhandary said that Nitte Education Trust and Corporation Bank are themain sponsors.
