Chennai (TN): Playing on home grounds in Chennai, and losing both the singles matches to young Brazil Tennis players in higher ranks, Indian Tennis came from behind to reassert itself and took the next 3 matches (one doubles and two reverse singles) to win a re-entry into World Tennis rounds for Davis Cup Championships on a lucky Sunday, on which Mary Kom from North East India (Manipur) a lady Boxer won the World Championship belt for the 5th time in Bridge Town (S. Africa) defeating Stelluta Duta.
Mary Kom was described by the international Boxing Federation as ’glorious Mary’ for her performance as boxer and mother of 2 young kids. Leander Paes received a colourful shield for his impeccable performance when chips were down, in the doubles match against Brazil which revived and registered Indian recovery. Mahesh Bhupathi, Leander’s partner, had an engagement prior to eventual wedlock with his current lady-love (Hindi) film-star, Lara Dutta after two earlier divorces.
Paes and Bhupathy are once again likely to go higher up in ATP World rankings after their stellar doubles tennis win in Chennai on a starry Sunday.
