Mangaluru : The Indian Coast Guard vessel Vikram has rescued three fishermen from a boat at 10 nautical miles off Kannur coast.

Those rescued have been identified as Arun, 36, S Francis, 58, and Suriender, 64,

IFB Bhadriya was stranded about 10 nautical miles off Kannur coast and the boat reportedly faced an engine failure breakdown in face of impending inclement and cyclonic storm Tauktae said, DIG S B Venkatesh, commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka.

The rescue operations were undertaken during midnight on May 14. The Coast Guard Ship Vikram braved the rough seas off Kerala coast. Subsequently, the ship was diverted to proceed off Lakshadweep coast for search and rescue of Tamil Nadu and Kerala registered fishing boats.

The ICG Ship from Karnataka had carried out extensive search by offshore patrol vessel and aerial search by CG Dornier. The vessel entered the Mangaluru port on Wednesday after nine days of sailing in rough seas. The three fishermen in good health were handed over to the representatives of Kerala government in the presence of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
