Mangaluru: Bharati Defence and Infrastructure Limited (BDIL), Mangaluru, handed over an Interceptor Boat C-162 to Indian Coast Guards at their BDIL Jetty here.
The delivered vessel is 28 metres in length with an aluminium hull weighing about 60 DWT and has been designed for a speed up to 35 knots.
It is fitted with a new generation of Arneson Surface Drive (ASD) propulsion system, which is propelled by two engines of 1650 KW each. The vessel can accommodate 11 member crew and is used mainly for patrolling purposes.
The vessel will be based in Kochi and Deputy Commandant Pawan Koyar will be the commanding officer of ICG C-162. Deputy Commandant Sushant Deshmukh is the project officer for the series of vessels.
BDIL Chief Operating Officer DIG Narendra Kumar said that BDIL has handed over five cruises to CGI and the current one is the sixth in the series.
A total of 20 cruises have been built by BDIL so far.
The construction of the cruise was completed on January 31 and the experimental navigation was done successfully.
Coast Guard Principal Director (Material) DIG H P Singh, CGRPS Goa DIG Atul Parlekar (TM), Shipyard President and Head Pavihtran Alokkan, General Manager Mahesh and other Senior Officer of Coast Guards and BDIL were present on the occasion.
