Mangaluru : The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) signed a memorandum of understanding for giving a boost to the Green Building Movement and sustainable development in the city.
The MoU signed between MSCL and IGBC envisages the joint assessment study to evaluate the green criteria of Mangaluru as per IGBC Green Cities Rating System, IGBC Mangaluru chapter chairman D B Mehta said at a MoU signing ceremony held at the Pathrika Bhavan on Tuesday.
“This marks a new journey for collaboration between MSCL and IGBC. For carrying out the capacity building of professionals involved in the development of Mangaluru as a smart and green city and for jointly participating at various platforms to spread awareness about the concept of sustainable built environment in Mangaluru. MSCL and IGBC would also jointly work towards development of green buildings in Mangaluru. The two parties shall work together towards incentivising green buildings rating system to suit various types of construction projects,” Mehta said.
Leaders from Confederation of Indian Industry, and IGBC will help MSCL evolve industry linkages through its vast industry base. “This will open doors for MSCL to showcase Mangaluru as a Model Green City for the rest of the country,” he said.
MSCL managing director Mohammed Nazeer said signing the MoU with IGBC marks a major milestone in the efforts of MSCL to make the city smart, green and clean.
IGBC co-chairman Venkatesh Pai and Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association president Srinivas Nayak were present.
