Mangalore : The Indian Red Cross Society organized two days workshop on ‘Disaster Management’ for the staffs of District Disaster Management team at SDM Business Management College auditorium on Aug 4, Saturday.
Chief Guest Red Cross team head Dr Kumar VLS said that, it is necessary to train the people of Dakshina Kannada for the Disaster Management, since Dakshina Kannada has two important Highways, Konkan Railway, Airport, Habour and many industries which has more chance for the disaster to occur.
He also said that though the Red Cross team is not functioning legally without support of the district administration and other. But can help the department like District administration, fire service and home guards during disaster. Red Cross had made its own 20 team to create awareness among the people of various district to prevent such disaster and train them to help people in problem.
He said that since DK has more chance towards disaster and the training will help the people to know on how to control the situation.
Speaking on the global warming, he said that it has created imbalance in the environment causing cyclone in the future and people must be trained to fight against it, he said.
Another chief guest H S Varadarajan, chief fire officer he said that if any incident occur, the fire department will be first to reach on the spot since they will have full knowledge on to prevent it . But even then people blame them for its single mistake or delay.
The department needs public support to control such disaster and allow the fire service vehicle to reach in time.
Dr Devdas Rai, vice president of Indian Red Cross presided over the event. Suresh Kumar, secretary proposed vote of thanks and Yatish Baikampady compered the programme.
