New Delhi : We run short of one – rupee notes. Even 2- rupee and 5 rupee notes are hardly in general currency. Coins seem to have replaced the notes of 1,2 and 5 rupees. But the 10 rupee coin has been a failure, as so many announcements made since 2 to 4 years have not brought forth the 10-rupee coin except, perhaps, in Mumbai or New Delhi.
Under such peculiar circumstances of currency notes and coins in the whole country, the single Indian Rupee will be dressed up with an emblem that has a Hindi ‘R’ with a dash on the upper part. With Chinese going off the US dollar control, the yen is free but Indian Rupee is not. What was Rs.25 per dollar, is now hovering around Rs. 50 a dollar, making those Indians abroad richer than local Indian money earners who are now going in for an income in crores from whatever business channels it may come.
Does the new emblem beat the fake notes in all its divisions from 1 to 1,000? This is not clear. As everybody knows, Telgi had issued fake notes in circulation for Rs.100, 500 and 1,000. There are fake note manufacturers in Kerala, who want to de-stabilize Indian currency. In such circumstances, without public opinion or a Parliamentary debate, the Rupee will get a new identity soon.
