Mangaluru : An inquiry has been initiated against the sub-inspector attached to the Uppinangady police station, who has been accused of delaying registering a case of sexual assault on a minor girl, Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said.
Addressing a grievance redressal meeting for the members of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at his office on Wednesday, Mr. Sharanappa said that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against the sub-inspector. If the inquiry reveals dereliction of duty, action would be taken, he said. Dalit activist Shekar Ajekar said that the Uppinangady sub-inspector failed to register the case despite local reporters informing him on January 18 about the incident. He also alleged that the sub-inspector turned away reports in newspapers about the alleged illegal sale of marijuana and asphalt mix. Mr. Sharanappa directed the police to register all complaints that reveal commission of cognisable offences.
