Mangalore: The people of port city and guests of National youth Festival in city can view Indian Navy Ship Trinkat, and INS Jamuna, at berths no.1 and 7 respectively, in the New Mangalore Port till Saturday(this) evening, said Indian Navy sources.
INS Jamuna is designed and constructed in India by local engineers. It has sophisticated oceanographic and survey equipments. It has a Chatak helicopter and 4 survey motor boats for search and rescue operations.
The ship has 160 sailors and 15 officers, commanded by B.K. Prasanna, a native of Mangalore and an Aloysian.
INS Jamuna had participated in operation Vijay at Kargil, and was mentioned in Navy dispatches.
INS Trinkat has sensors and modern weapons needed to guard the coastline. It has 40 sailors and 4 officers, who engaged the ship in many an anti-piracy operation, commanded by Vivek Madhwal.
