Mangalore : Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof .K.Byrappa said that IQAC – Internal Quality Assurance Cells will help to gather information from students to understand the pulse of student community.
He was speaking to the students after inaugurating the NAAC-National Assessment and Accreditation Council, sponsored national seminar on ‘Measures for quality enhancement and sustenance in higher education’ organized by SDM College of Business Management and PG Centre for Management Studies and Research, at the college on October 9, Thursday.
He also said that from 11th Plan, University Grants Commission (UGC) is sanctioning grants to establish IQACs in colleges. Hence the colleges must know the importance of NAAC accreditation for UGC grants that helps in for quality enhancement and achieve sustenance in higher education. The NAAC has directed all universities to support colleges to have their own IQACs, he added.
VC also said that, best curriculum and trained quality teachers are necessary for quality education. Teaching should be passion and research should be commitment which is integral part of post graduation courses. Information Communication and Technology (ICT) must be used to a higher extent in teaching.
Prof K Byrappa said that the students pursuing higher education must have a uniforms and it was also discussed by Governor of Karnataka in the last meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor of Jain University said that as per the 2013 statistics provided by the Central government, there are 634 colleges awarding degree, 20,000 affiliated colleges, 250 specialized institutions for research and learning, 4 lakh full time faculties and around 10 lakh students who have joined regular higher education programmes in the country. Only 15 per cent of students are eligible to get into higher education in India while looking into the age group, while global ratio is 29 per cent and comes second from the bottom in the list in the country.
He also said that most of the students pursue higher education to postpone their unemployment. There is necessary to build bridge between world of study and work. Quality teaching does not include power point presentation, but it is all about attitude and practices students following.
