Mangalore : The much awaited Air Cargo Complex inaugural at Mangalore Airport was held on March18, Monday. Ajith Singh, Union Civil Aviation Minister inaugurated the terminal.
In his inaugural address, he said the 1400 square meter cargo complex can store 5000 metric tonnes of international import cargo and 13000 metric tonnes of export cargo.It is electronically linked with the Kolkata air cargo complex where the main server is located, he informed.
On this occasion, the Minister said there are plans to extend the runway of the Mangalore airport and that the Rs 250 crore project is in planning stages. There is plan to extend to runway to 3400 meters, the Minister said.
M Veerappa Moily, Union Petroleum Minister said he was immensely pleased to see the progress registered by the airport over the years ever since the maiden flight landed.
JT Radhakrishnan, Director of Mangalore International Airport, Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde, Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, Abhayachandra, UT Khader, Ramanatha Rai, Legislators and others were present.
