Mr. P.B. Pinto Pointing that there are many non- resident Indians (NRIs) in Kuwait to coastal Karnataka –from Bhatkal, Kundapur, Udupi, Chickmangalore, Darmasthla, Bantwal to Mangalore and northern parts of kerala. Due to lack of direct flights from Mangalore, there NRIs waste time and money and undergo unnecessary stress and inconvenience. Approximately More than 1,50,000 members (from this region) in Kuwait alone. They travel to their native at least once a year. “This number does not include NRIs not registered with any of our associations and these numbers may be twice as quoted above”, it said.
Many passengers are forced to take other private airlines due to convenience of having connecting flights to the Gulf. This surely is a loss to the Government carriers like the Air India Airlines. Lack of direct flight to Mangalore from the Gulf will affect the growth of tourism in coastal region. The forum said that Mangalore is known for its educational facilities, particularly in the professional sector. Students from many countries travel to Manipal, Mangalore, Moodbidri, as well as Nitte, near Karkala. Direct flight will help many such students.
