Mangaluru : The International Children’s Film Festival being held in Hyderabad between November 14 and 20 is unlikely to affect the 10th edition of Children’s India International Children’s Film Festival to be held in Mangaluru and Udupi between November 22 and 26.
Rajendra Singh Babu, chairman, Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy and N.R. Nanjunde Gowda, founder, Children’s India, a non-profit organisation, which is holding the festival in Mangaluru and Udupi, told reporters on Wednesday that some of the movies featuring in the Hyderabad film festival will be showcased in theatres and multiplexes in the two cities.
The Hyderabad show was unlikely to affect the film festival in Mangaluru and Udupi, Mr. Babu said.
The International Children’s Film Festival in Hyderabad – a biennial event – is being conducted by the Children’s Film Society of India, an autonomous body of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Films from as many as 80 countries will be showcased in this festival. Mr. Gowda said nearly 300 films from 40 countries will be screened in the theatres and multiplexes in Mangaluru and Udupi.
While 250 films will be from competitive segment, 35 films will be from non-competitive segment, which includes some old foreign feature and short films. Mr. Gowda said entries were still coming and scheduling of screening of the films was yet to be worked out.
Films from as many as 40 countries will be screened. Each of feature film will be having subtitles, he said.
Mr. Gowda said unlike the earlier film festivals there will be no children jury for this Children’s Film Festival. The awards namely Best Film, Best Director, Best Child Artist, Best Animation, Best Short film, Best Indian Film and Jury Choice will be given based on decision of adult jury.
