Mangalore : District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the ‘International Senior Citizens day’ at Little Sisters of the poor, Bajjodi on October 1, Tuesday.
The event was organized by Dakshina Kannada District Administration in association with DK Zilla Panchayat, Women and Child welfare department, Mangalore Senior citizens Association and Self help groups.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the young generation are least bothered to look after their aged parents and are busy enjoying their life.
Rai also said that at present, the government is running few old age homes and is giving the pension of Rs 500 per month. The present government has also increased the fund of Rs 7 lakhs for the old age home, in the budget.
Gertrude Veigas, president of Women and Child welfare department welcomed the gathering.
Mangalore Senior Citizens Association, president of V T Shenoy submitted a memorandum to the minister.
Dr Olinda Pereira and Sr Josphine were present on the occasion.
