Bengaluru : Karnataka state NSS cell with United nation development program committee in association with NSS Bangalore University and Bangalore city University have jointly organised one day international symposium on climate change on the event of celebration of World Environment Day through online mode.
The program was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr Shalini Rajneesh Madam IAS officer, Honble Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka, and President of the Conference Prof. Dr K.R. Venugopal Sir Honble Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Prof. Lingaraja Gandhi Sir Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore City, Sri. Kadhri Naraismahia Regional Director, NSS Regional Directorate, Government of India, Sri Prathap Lingaih, State NSS officer AND Todays Resource Persons, Chris Pohl – Vice Chairman of the India Africa Trade Council, Dr Aneesh V Pillai Faculty of Law Moderator Dr. Mukund Raj Project Head – UNDP-SDGCC and Govinde Gowda and Dr. Sathis Gowda N NSS Coordinators were present.
While addressing, Dr Shalini Rajaneesh, Addl Chief Secretary, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka shed light upon how climate action, climate change has been a topic of concern & discussion all these years, she stressed upon how important it is for us to act for the same to save our mother earth and she also reminded us about the United Nations Sustainable Development goals which are imperative to the current situation we all are in. She also made us all think about how important it is to draw a line and limit the human beings from exploiting the available natural resources and also about the importance of responsible consumption to make sure we as humans don’t exploit mother earth to her fullest and if this continues we’ll be left with nothing for our future generations and they’ll be the one to pay for our deeds.
Prof. Dr K.R. Venugopal Sir Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University who presided the Conference stressed upon how we as human beings have moved from Climate Change to Climate Crisis and therefore it is the responsibility of human beings to act accordingly to overcome the ecological degradation of our planet. He made us all realise that it’s we humans who are responsible for the degradation of mother earth and not the animals, forests or rivers but it is us who are the reason for today’s crisis. He shed light on the fact that land degradation, water degradation, all sorts of pollution, resource exploitation, deforestation are all man made disasters. He made us all realise that it is not only the responsibility of any NGO, University or Institution but it is the responsibility of every single individual living on this planet to make sure our mother earth is safe and create an ecological balance which is lost. He also stressed upon how important it is to preserve and conserve before we start the process of restoration. He motivated all the youngsters and made us realise that we all are duty bound to mother earth and we all have to take this task of protecting her on a challenging note and inspire others to not exploit mother earth.
Prof. Dr. Lingaraj Gandhi, Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore City stressed upon the fact that the Man & Nature relationship is being badly affected and also about how the environment is turning to be toxic. He shed light on the fact that the food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe are increasingly becoming a matter of concern as it is slowly turning to be toxic. He made us all realise about how it is important for every human being on this earth to join hands to fight the battle of global environmental issues as it affects each one of us.
