Stating that the IOC is setting up three bio-ethanol plants including one at Haryana and Gujarat, he said: “The biofuels will be able to support the requirements for motor spirit (petrol) blends set by the Government of India while enabling Indian Oil to add value while reducing its emissions.
” Both ethanol and methanol will complement the conventional fuel. However, the convention fuels will not be replaced with alternative fuels overnight, he felt.
On the drop in the price of crude oil in the international market, he said it will have an impact. However, he did not explain whether it will reduce the price of petrol and diesel in India.
