New Delhi : Is India becoming a terror-free country? Union Home Minister P Chidambaram pointed out that the country has managed to avert all kind of terror threats since last six months and no such militant atrocities also have not been occured. “As far as the first six months of this year is concerned, in the hinterland, not in the border states, there has been no incident of terror and no casulty….in Jammu and Kashmir we are keeping a vigil,” stated the home minister while briefing his MHA report card before the national media on Wednesday, Jul 6. Pointing at “lower violence” in Jammu Kashmir and North-East region of the country, Chidambaram also informed, “In Jammu and Kashmir again much lower level (of violence) – 254 incidents last year, 168 this year. Left Wing Extremism areas – 338 last year, 203 this year – much lower level of violence, much lower level of casualties except in Northeast.” When asked about Telangana controversy and current violence in the region, Chidambaram also rejected all speculations stating that UPA government does not have any plan to impose president rule in Andhra Pradesh. Chidambaram also claimed that Telangana leaders and the central government will land in consent after having fruitful discussions. Here it can be recalled that Telangana MLAs and MPs already tabled their resignations demanding separate statehood.- OI
