Udupi : Two days state level jack fruit mela got a splendid start on Friday. People were gathering in a large numbers to observe the venue.
The jackfruit festival has been jointly organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Brahmavar, Shree Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Kundapur, horticulture and forest department, Udupi, and other organisations at Rajangana hall of Shree Krishna Math here.
Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji inaugurated the mela along with Sri Vishwaprasannateertha Swamiji and District In-Charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj.
The visitors got pleasure from the luscious tastes of a range of jackfruit dishes.
Visitors saw and tasted many of the splendid varieties of jackfruit which were never heard by them.
Assistance Research Director, hanumanthappa said “many farmers from different districts have arrived for the mela. The public is also responding very nicely to the event.”
“We are getting good business here. Happy to see the people who are arriving in large numbers,” said a jack fruit seller.
Rare varieties like Rudrakshi, Chandra and others were kept for public display.
A special session on the topic of ‘Speciality of jackfruit in Karnataka and scope for farmers’ was conducted by the editor of Adike magazine Shree Padre.
Nearly 20-25 stalls have been set up. Many organiosations also took participation in the event.
