Mangalore: ABVP national vice president, Mamatha Yadav addressing a large gathering here on Thursday said that woman should be able to stand up in full power against those who sexually abuse them or commit criminal acts against their human rights.
She regretted that the amendments made to the sections of IPC regarding atrocities against women had not brought down the incidents of such cases of violence against woman in the country, so woman naturally have to tread a new path to exert themselves against criminals and Goondas they come across on the roads or in public.
She gave a trumpet call to women of this country to rise against those barbarians who commit crimes against women habitually at home or in office or factory or in public life in a bold manner, not relating upon the state help to remedy things.
Advocate Asha Prasad in her address stated that every citizen has the duty to protect women at home and in public, whenever he sees violent acts being committed against them. She referred to Deralakatta incident were a girl student was caught in a racket of a large gang of criminals who were blackmailers to extort money from such girl student in the university areas of DK district. Such cases should never be repeated and the gangs must be subdued by the police straightaway.
Sulochan Bhat in her speech asked where were the members of women’s commission of India now, who had come to Mangalore to enquire in to Padil Home Stay incident but never turned up in Deralakatta where medical students were involved in blackmail and ransom money extortion case?
BJP women leaders Sushma Swaraj, Smriti Irani and Uma Bharti a former CM were conspicuous by their absence during the march past of women from Jyothi circle to Nehru Mai8dan today.
Ashwini, a college student and member of ABVP also spoke on the occasion.
A memorandum with these demands was submitted to the chief minister and the governor through the DC.
