Mangaluru: Jai Tulunad has decided to observe November 1 as black day on twitter to urge union and state governments to include Tulu language in the eighth schedule of Indian constitution to recognise the language as separate independent language in the country.
Jai Tulunad aims to create a trend on social media through two twitter handles, #TuluTo8th Schedule and #BlackDay For Tulunad on November 1. According to the plan, the outfit aims to create 1 lakh tweets to awake the governments and to organise Tuluvas to fight for a separate independent, official language in the country.
The twitter campaign is scheduled for November 1 from 06.00 AM to 12.00 PM and the Tuluvas are expected urge Karnataka ministers, chief minister, union ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and others through tweets to urge them to recognise the language. Speaking on the campaign, Jai Tulunad President Ashwath said, Tulu Nadu was a part of then, Madras Presidency and it split into two on November 1, 1956 when Kerala and Karnataka state were formed under language formula. Therefore, the day, November 1 when Tulu Nadu split into two should be observed as black day.
Tulu is a separate, independent language. However, it is being treated as sublanguage in the country. The campaign scheduled is not against any language in the country instead it is a demand to recognise our language, Ashwath pointed out.
