Moodbidri : A hunger strike held at the Savira Kamba Basadi premises here on October 2, Wednesday under the leadership of Jain Mutt Seer Sri Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji. The protest was to demand a CBI probe into the Siddantha Darshana Mandir theft case.
Speaking on the occasion, the Jain Mutt seer said the police have been unable to trace eight of the stolen idols and said a CBI probe was a must to trace the remaining idols.
State Minister for Fisheries Abhayachandra Jain and former union minister visited the protest venue and extended full support to the stir.
Poojari even spoke to the Chief Minister over phone and urged him to order a CBI probe.
Religious heads of Jain community Lalithakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji from Karkala, Lakshmisena Bhattaraka Swamiji from Narasimharajapura, Vrishabhasena Bhattaraka Swamiji from Lakkavalli, Bhanukeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji from Kambadahalli, Kshullaka Siddhantakeerthi Swamiji from Shravanabelagula were present.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, RSS Leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Alangar Church Priest Basil Vas, Abdureheman from Moodbidri Juma Masjid and others visited the protest venue and assured wholehearted support.
The stir ended at 5.30 pm after the protestors consumed lemon juice.
