Bangalore: The Karnataka Jana Jagrithi Andolan has launched a campaign to urge the government to save the institution of Lokayukta by appointing a new Lokayukta very soon.
The Andolan has also decided to go on an agitation till June 16 in support of its cause. Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, veteran freedom fighter Doreswamy Iyengar and others were present at a function held at Freedom Park on June 11 to launch the campaign. Others who participated included AK Subbaiah, former MLC and MP Nadagowda, State JD(U) President.
Justice Hegde who spoke on the occasion pointed out that the institution of Lokayukta did not have a chief since the past nine months after the then Lokayukta Shivaraj Patil quit on charges of land related irregularities.
