Mangalore : The Jana Jagrithi Samithi staged a protest in front of DC office on August 19, Monday demanding a strong cattle protection law in the state.
Kateel Dinesh Pai, Convenor of the Samithi who spoke on the occasion said there has been an increase in cattle related crime in the district and said cattle is being stolen systematically for slaughter and sale of meat. He also alleged that eh police were not putting concerted effort to trap the thieves.
The protestors demanded compensation of Rs 50,000 to those who have lost a cattle and also to provide gun licences to the dairy farmers. They also urged for setting of of a Go Raksha Dala to protect cattle.
Vidyadhar Hegde, Jaya Gowda, Sharan Pumpwell, Manjunath, Kishjore Kumar, Jagadish Shenava and others were present.
