Udupi : Sri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with religious fervor and traditional gaiety in the temple town of Udupi on September 8, Saturday. Thousands of devotees visited Sri Krishna Math and offered prayers to Lord Krishna. Special rituals were held at the temple to mark the birthday of Kanayya.
The Sri Krishna Temple wore a whole new look with a floral decoration. Long queues were also seen at the temple. The presiding deity was specially decorated as Bala Krishna with a diamond crown and was seated on a golden cradle.
‘Laksha Tulsi Archana’ and ‘Mahapooja’ was offered to the Lord by Paryaya Sode Seer Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Swamiji. Bhajans programme were also held.
‘Hulivesha’ (tiger dance), music bands gave a festive look to the town. A variety of contests too are being organised.Vittlapindi mahotsava will be held on Sunday.
